Strange Things To Worry About When You Rent A Dumpster

If you are having a dumpster dropped off at your home for a construction project going on and you are worried about people or animals getting in the trash, there are a few uncommon risks you really want to be weary of. Since the dumpster is on your property, you don't want to be accountable for the dumb things that other people do.

You want to post signs and consider the following things when you have a dumpster on your property.

Fire Hazards

People could dump toxins illegally into your dumpster, and this could lead to a dumpster fire near your home. A fire, and/or explosion, is going to put you and your family in danger, along with the property owners around your home. Check the dumpster regularly, and call the local fire department if you feel there are any hazardous toxins throughout the dumpster. If anything happened, you would be to blame because it's your dumpster.

Injury Risks

If someone wants to jump into the dumpster to look for scrap metal or other materials and they injure themselves, you could be liable because the dumpster is on your property. You'll want to post signs that say 'no trespassing' or 'danger' around the dumpster, so you have proof that you forbid and warned people from coming on your property or in the dumpster.

Illegal Dumping

Someone may come up to the dumpster and throw their own bags of trash in, taking up space and causing problems. The 'no trespassing' signs may be enough to stop the people from dumping, but if not, you can put a 'no dumping' sign on the bin. If someone does and you catch them, or if you want to go through the garbage to find out whom it was, you may be able to prosecute.

You don't want to be stuck paying for the damages or feeling terrible about injuries because people illegally came on to your property and put something in the dumpster. Talk with the dumpster rental company to see if they have any doors or covers, or closing dumpsters, that you can have dropped off at the home, so you can lock the dumpster or at least close it during the night and when you aren't home. A dumpster is a great way to get rid of a ton of stuff at once, but you have to make sure that it stays safe. For more information, contact a local dumpster service
